Protected until it reaches its destination: tips for robust parcels
By packing parcels correctly, you can help to avoid potential damage costs, delivery delays and customer complaints. This will leave a positive impression and improve customer loyalty. Our guide provides you with practical tips to ensure that your shipment arrives safely and intact. Save time, money and stress – with properly packaged parcels.
💡Follow our guide to ensure your shipments arrive safely and intact:
Protected contents thanks to strong inner packaging
- Suitable packaging materials protect your goods from possible knocks and shocks during transport. Create a pleasant unpacking experience for your customers with moderately filled and (moisture-protected) shipments.
Precise shipping thanks to robust outer packaging
- Suitable outer packaging protects your shipment from external influences and possible damage. Use compact, high-quality, firmly sealed corrugated cardboard with enclosed shipping information to ensure that your shipment arrives safely.
Ready to ship? Here's how to pack correctly!
Select sturdy outer packaging
- Select high-quality packaging that is appropriate for the size, weight and fragility of your shipment.Â
- Ensure that the packaging provides enough space for your shipment and sufficient padding.Â
- Select a new box made of high-quality, moisture-resistant cardboard with at least two layers for heavy parcels. For sustainable shipping, we recommend cardboard boxes made from recycled cardboard or reusable packaging.
Design secure inner packaging:
- Place heavy contents at the bottom and light contents at the top. Special contents such as liquids require special care.Â
- Pad all contents and empty spaces to prevent direct contact between the contents and with the outer packaging.
- Use cushioning materials such as bubble wrap, air chamber bags, corrugated cardboard rolls and crumpled kraft paper. Many cushioning materials can be reused several times. This actively helps to reduce waste and save resources.
- For heavy and fragile goods, it is best to use custom-fit polystyrene moulded parts.
Apply strong closure
- Use tear-resistant adhesive tape with high adhesive strength.
- Using high-quality adhesive tape also reduces your consumption in the long term.Â
- Seal the flaps, edges and corners of the parcel. Make the outer shape of the parcel compact and secure by avoiding loose strapping and protruding wires.Â
Prepare for accurate delivery
- Remove old shipping labels to avoid misunderstandings.
- Always affix the current shipping label visibly to the largest side of the parcel.
- Make sure to affix a separate parcel label to each individual parcel.
- Always enclose accompanying documents and shipping information with your parcel to enable quick identification in case of label loss.
Extra tips
- Please note the maximum parcel size and weight for all shipments.
- Certain goods, such as medicines, cash or perishable goods, are excluded from shipping with GLS. You can find a complete list of these prohibited goods in our terms and conditions.
