What documents and data are required for import customs clearance?
The following documents and data are required for import customs clearance:
- Customs authorizationso that GLS can carry out customs clearance on your behalf. Customs clearance is carried out in direct representation, you act as the importer and customs declarant. The customs authorization can be can be downloaded here.
- Commercial invoicecontains all important information for the customs declaration.
- EORI numberthe Economic Operators Registration and Identification Number is required for economic operators in trade with third countries. German EORI numbers begin with DE and consist of 7 or 15 numbers. The validity can be checked in the EU database be checked. An application is at German customs possible.
- IOSS number (only for Inc18 procedure)for the import of goods to private individuals with a value of less than €150 (excluding shipping costs and taxes). The IOSS number can be can be applied for via the Federal Central Tax Office.
Further required data:
- Invoice number
- Contact details of shipper/exporter (address, telephone number, e-mail address)
- Contact details of recipient/importer (address, telephone number, e-mail address)
- Complete product description (incl. intended use and material, e.g. "Pullover made of 100% cotton, long-sleeved, dark blue, size M, for men")
- Quantity information (e.g. number of items in the parcel)
- Goods / customs tariff number (goods tariff number can be entered in the TARIC database of the EU be researched)
- Country of origin (place of manufacture of the goods)
- Realistic value of goods
- Single currency
- Proof of preference (if available; information on the structure of a valid proof of preference can be found on the WuP customs page)
Only if all these documents and data are complete can the shipment be processed without delay.
