What additional duties may be incurred in addition to customs duties when importing goods?
In addition to customs duties, the following additional charges may apply when importing goods:
- Import sales tax (EUSt): This tax is similar to VAT and is levied on the value of goods including customs duties and transportation costs. It is mandatory in many countries and is payable on import.
- Excise duties: For certain products such as tobacco, alcohol or fuels, separate excise duties are levied that are independent of the customs duty rate.
- Other fees: These include, for example, environmental charges, security fees or administrative fees.
These charges may vary depending on the type of goods, destination country and shipping method.
