Sustainability - People and the environment at the centre
At GLS, we are aware of our responsibility towards people and the environment.
We believe that sustainable economic success can and should only be achieved in harmony with environmental protection for future generations (E) and the safeguarding of social and human rights (S). Compliance with applicable laws and our own ethical standards (G) is of the utmost importance to us, regardless of where GLS operates.

We support the sustainable development goals
In 2015, the United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during their General Assembly. The SDGs aim to ensure sustainable development by integrating the three key aspects: economic, social, and environmental.
A total of 169 sub-goals provide a framework for action for governments, companies, and individuals. Through our sustainability measures, the GLS Group also contributes to achieving the SDG goals.

The health and well-being of our employees are top priorities. We ensure this through our occupational health and safety programme as well as various local activities. We also support healthcare organisations at the local level.

In line with our commitment to our employees, we offer training and development opportunities, ensure proper health and social insurance, and respect cultural diversity to promote productive employment. We evaluate our employees based on their qualifications and performance, regardless of personal characteristics such as origin, culture, religion, age, or sexual identity.

We strive to offer all employees equal opportunities and promote practices that exclude any discriminatory behaviour. We also support regional initiatives such as free parcel delivery for charities and social institutions. GLS is also involved in various external projects and institutions across the individual GLS country organisations.

Together with our transport partners, we use vehicles that are emission-free (e.g. electric or hydrogen vehicles) and low-emission (e.g. bio-CNG, bio-LNG, HVO100 vehicles) in operation compared to conventional drives, and we are continuously exploring new possibilities for environmentally friendly transport.

As part of our environmental strategy "Klima Protect", we promote the responsible use of resources. Together with our transport partners, we reduce emissions during parcel delivery and collection by switching to lower-emission vehicles in operation while also working on solutions to reduce energy consumption at our depots. We have set clear emission reduction targets for the upstream and downstream value chain (Scope 1-3) and pursue corresponding measures and policies.
